LASIK and Refractive Eye Surgery Evaluation & Co-Management

For those who do not wish to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses, LASIK eye surgery or another type of vision correction may be a good choice for them. Athletes and people who suffer from allergies can also benefit from LASIK or other types of refractive eye surgery.

Refractive eye surgery, however, is not for everyone. At Decatur Family Eye Care, we provide comprehensive eye health and vision care, and our optometrists offer pre-and post-operative care for patients who undergo LASIK eye surgery or other refractive eye surgeries.

At Decatur Family Eye Care, our doctors can help you determine if LASIK eye surgery or another corrective eye surgery is the right option for you. If you are a good candidate for refractive eye surgery and elect to have it done, we also provide both pre- and post-operative eye surgery care to support you through the preparation and recovery process.

Refractive Eye Surgery Evaluation

Refractive eye surgeries can include a variety of different procedures that can help with several vision correction issues. Many are performed with small computer-controlled lasers and done quickly with people being sent home the same day. LASIK surgery is the most well-known. LASIK surgery is a minimally invasive surgery that is performed to reshape the cornea. The outpatient procedure is quick and typically involves only minimal discomfort. LASIK eye surgery is most often used to correct three conditions: nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

At our eye care center in Decatur, your optometrist will fully evaluate your eye health and vision. They will also perform a review of your patient history to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery and to determine if there are existing conditions that may affect your results. To determine your candidacy, we will evaluate your current prescription as well as other factors such as any presence of eye disease and the thickness and shape of your cornea.

Once your optometrist has completed the evaluation, we will provide you with a referral to a LASIK surgery center with which we have worked on an ongoing basis.

Decatur LASIK & Post-Operative Eye Care

After laser eye correction surgery, your eyes will need time to heal and recover. Dr. Jonathan Davis is experienced in providing post-operative LASIK and refractive eye surgery care. Post-operative laser eye surgery care involves monitoring your recovery and addressing any issues that may arise following surgery. We will observe any side effects and offer guidance on what to do to ensure a thorough recovery process and will answer any questions you may have.
